ESSAY QUESTION 1: The five artworks I selected were; my pixel tie dye, my cardboard camera, my acrylic painting, my green smurf, and my clay slab box. I selected each of these for various reasons. I selected my tie dye pixel project because of the time, effort, and patience it took. I had to use math to draw out the lines and make them straight and create squares, it was a challenge to make them perfect. When I colored in each square I had to get the right color to create the circle of the colors. I wasn’t fully pleased with the end product, but I chose this work to show how I learned to use colors and colored pencils. My next project is my cardboard camera. I feel I learned how to cut cardboard and how to shape it. I also learned how to make it to scale with a realistic camera. My acrylic painting is from my perspective of riding a bike. It is not only realistic but it shows happy and bright colors which describe how I feel during a bike ride. I had to do this a few times to get the right proportions and perspective. I chose my green smurf because I feel that it is the most realistic. I feel like I was able to draw almost a replica of a smurf, but I made it my own by making it green. Finally I chose my clay slab box. The box is supposed to represent a sunflower. When I created this I learned how to create a clay box through the process of wet, leather hard, bone dry, and slip. I am very pleased with the way it looks and how it is also functional. Each of these projects are of things I haven’t done in art outside of Art I. ESSAY QUESTION 2: Of all of my works in this class I am most proud of my acrylic painting “a bike ride”. It is based off of a picture I took in New Bern last summer. I am most proud of how realistic it looks. I enjoy looking at the bright colors on the picture, the roses on the side, it makes me feel happy like I am actually on a bike ride. I feel like I succeeded in proportions and that it looks like I am riding a path. Also, the lines on the basket and the depth given by the color make it realistic. On the sides, the texture makes it look like real grass, and the handle bars look realistic because of the shade and tint that makes it look reflective. I am proud of this painting because it is something that I have never tried before. It looks completed and clean and I am very satisfied by it. ESSAY QUESTION 3: For my final project, I recreated the bird we drew on the first day. My first bird is of a bird flying sideways. The head is large and it doesn’t have any feathers! The neck is very long and I’m not sure what kind of bird it is. When deciding to recreate it, I made a Pinterest board with different kind of birds that I could draw. I wanted to draw a bird that was colorful but not too complex. Even before I created the bird I knew it would be a challenge to get the feathers right and the body proportionate. My three sketches were of a small little bird, a detailed bird that you see in the trees, and a pelican. I chose the small bird because of how cute it was, but mainly to see if I was able to draw the feathers, I was not able to. So then I drew a detailed tree bird, because it had feathers but lots of details on the feathers so that way it would be easier to draw. My last sketch was of a pelican. I chose to draw a pelican because of its uniqueness and shape. It was difficult to shade it correctly and make it have depth and texture because it was only a few colors. So, for my final project I chose to recreate my sketch of the tree bird (as seen above in color). I used colored pencils to make it a realistic blue. I had to layer and blend some colors to create the look of feathers. It was kind of difficult to blend the colors to make a flow, but I feel that it flows well enough. If you look at the art, it shows proportion and lots of color. I feel like this shows what I have learned in Art 1 because it shows how realistic I have been able to draw things, how I was able to blend colors, and make feathers. If you compare the first bird to the last, I feel that it looks much better. I learned how to draw realistically and more in depth in this class and I feel that these qualities are shown in this final artwork. ESSAY QUESTION 4:
I enjoyed art 1 very much. I feel like I grew as an artist and I was challenged. I was given a way to express myself in a different way than in other art classes where I had to make one specific thing. I would keep the class just the same in the next years. Your feedback and encouraging words really helped me with my art. I learned a lot by collaboration of my table groups so I would just say make sure you keep that for next year! Thank you for teaching this class I enjoyed having you as a teacher!

This is my pixel project. I decided to challenge myself and do tie dye because of the wide variety of colors. The original image had lots of fading which made it difficult. I had to use lots of colored pencils. I learned that I should have used less colors and make sure to follow the template it made it easier.
My take a stand is based off of the argument on poaching. Poaching is where people hunt elephants or other animals for the ivory on their tusks. It is not an extreme topic and isn't very talked about. In my art I brought out how gruesome and vulgar the act is. To create the art I used watercolor. I like how I used the contrast on the elephant to create the depth and texture of the elephant.
In these past two weeks I worked on drawing eyes. I used pineterest as a reference and started with my original eye (first picture) and created my second eye (second picture) I learned the correct way to shade the inside of an eye and what to highlight. I feel like there is a big improvement between my first and second eye.
This is my clay project. To create it I used a clay slav and created a template. I carved out the shapes to make the box when they were leather hard and I also connected them. It was difficult to make the top of the box. It was fired when it was bone dry. I learned how to make it textured and layed out the way I wanted. I also learned when it is fired and painted you have to do three layers. I am pleased on how it turned out.
This is my visual biography of my dog. Her name is Lola. I created this by using lots of pictures and words to describe her. I realized that it looked better with a colored background. I used multiple colors that made each other one pop out.
I created this 3D art camera by attaching cardboard to make a rectangular cube. Then I attached two circles that create the lenses for the actual camera. Then I attached the button and the flash and I was finished. The most difficult part was cutting the circles and the easiest part was making the box. I am pleased with my finished camera.
I made this optical illusion by starting with a layer of a flow of colors. Then I added a layer of white creating an optical illusion with a hot air balloon and a sky view. It was fun creating the background colors. I used chalk pastel making it difficult to work with and smudged but I finished. I am pleased with the way it turned out.
I made my painting by starting out with a sketch to understand what to do when I start my final. I started by putting a single layer of yellow on the painting to even it out. Then I put down the sidewalk. I used warm colors to get a warm feel for the ground. For all the colors on my painting I used the 3 primary colors to make secondary colors. I had to layer for the flowers and grass. It was difficult to get the color of the basket but I learned that you have to keep mixing colors to get the right one. I learned that sometimes it's hard to get the lighting and depth when using acrylic paints.
My group and I created a tape mural of a transformer. At first, we had issues with communication in our group, we couldn't get any one to agree. Over time the group began to come together. We originally started to create a giraffe, but then a group member was absent, we had to compromise. We ended up in the end creating a transformer. From this art project I learned that sometimes things do not always go as planned.
